More than 400 residences arranged around a gleaming glass-and-stone library and a new city hall are making their way to Burien Town Square, a $150 million development that aims to unify this town 11 miles south of Seattle.
These private-entry homes are located above the ground-floor retail. The majority of those homes will be condos, while a select number of town homes and live-work spaces will also be available. Future residents will choose from several floor plans that allow access to separate and secure parking garages. The 70,000 sq. ft. of retail shops and restaurants will share street and underground parking sufficient for 600 cars.
The park features a performance stage with lawn seating, a market promenade and water features. A circular drive encompasses the park with generous 12-foot sidewalks and pedestrian-friendly paving that keeps cars moving slower.
Move-in dates are slated for summer 2008 with final construction completing by 2009.
The beginnings of a $400 million waterfront community are apparent at Everett 's Port Gardner. The project, a seven-year joint venture between the Port of Everett and Maritime Trust of Chicago, will add hundreds of jobs and help redefine the city's north end.
Port Gardner Wharf will sit on a 65-acre site with mountain and marina views. Condos, selling between $400,000 and $1 million, will replace a series of industrial buildings. Through multiple phases, the master planned community will offer low-rise office and commercial space in addition to the 660 condos.
Boat owners will appreciate the walk-to convenience of the West Coast's second largest marina. A $15 million expansion will add 200 slips that can moor yachts as large as 70 feet.
Snohomish, nine miles east of Port Gardner in Everett, is getting a 450,000 sq. ft. shopping center. Snohomish Station will be anchored by a new Home Depot and Fred Meyer, with room for additional retail outlets. The project dwarfs previous retail projects in the small city of 8,600 people.
Currently, city residents must travel miles to Everett or Monroe for the selection of products that will be available in Snohomish Station.
Five 17,000 and 21,000 sq. ft. retail spots along with a series of smaller shops ranging from 2,100 sq. ft. to 11,200 sq. ft. are available in addition to the large spaces set aside for the two retail giants.
Bellevue-based Wakefield Properties, developer of Mill Creek Town Center, is building the project on a 30-acre plot that used to be a gravel pit. The project is made possible by a large annexation along Bickford Avenue, made by the city in 2001.
