An advertiser's guide to what's new at The Seattle Times Company

Announcing a new reason to shop closer to home

The Seattle Times and the Seattle Post-Intelligencer are helping advertisers rake in the $8 billion that Western Washington consumers invest in projects for their homes by seeding the Saturday newspapers with content aimed at the do-it-yourself bunch.

Aimed at affordable ways to design the perfect home, digs debuted May 7 in The Seattle Times. The section offers buckets of practical how-to advice for gardeners and home improvement readers. Also springing up on May 7 was the Seattle P-I's SEATTLE@home -
a you-can-do-it section that inspires readers to tackle home and garden projects by providing project ideas, product information and helpful how-to steps.

To ensure the sections smelled like roses, The Seattle Times Company executed the Whole House Makeover Sweepstakes with a campaign budget of more than $250,000. This promotion granted one fortunate reader a massive home improvement package valued at $72,500 and directed green thumbs and decorating divas alike to digs and SEATTLE@home. Prizes came in the shape of shopping sprees at advertising partners, including California Closets, Dream Kitchens, Gutter Cap, Great Floors, Greenbaum's, The Maytag Store, Pande Cameron and West Coast Vinyl.

Seattle has long been one of the strongest home and garden markets in the country, and these fresh sections will allow any advertiser to reach these style-conscious homeowners and renters with a series of programs built for any ad budget.

For the first time, advertisers will now be able to purchase advertising for which a position is not specified (know as Run of Press or ROP) by geographic zone in both newspapers. This makes for an unprecedented level of choice as advertisers can select from zone advertising in the north, south, east or metro areas in either or both products or choose the enormous reach of a full-run ad. A weekly directory appears in digs and SEATTLE@Home profiling companies in several categories: Antiques & Consignment, Handy House Calls, Renovations, Well Dressed Rooms and Yard & Garden. Power positions that offer premium visibility will always run in full-page, full-color format.
