THE SEATTLE TIMES FUND FOR THE NEEDY

Mission Statement

To help needy children, families and individuals in our community through support of certain programs of carefully chosen social service agencies having 501(c)(3) charity status with funds raised through stories run in our newspaper during the Holiday Season. The focus of the selected programs includes addressing basic needs and utilizing programs that are preventative and remedial.

A key criterion for selected agencies is their ability to work in concert to benefit many segments of our community. One hundred percent (100%) of the community's contributions go to the agencies for services (i.e. the newspaper pays all the administrative costs).

Background

The Seattle Times Fund For The Needy is a holiday season charity campaign. Stories are run in the newspaper about needy children, families and individuals in our community, who are served by 13 carefully chosen social service agencies. There is a particular focus on children and families, and in providing help for basic needs. Over the past 30 years, $12.5 million has been raised.
