and research of Seattle Times columnists, reporters and editors. Now
available are The Lessons of Life by Reverend Dale Turner, A Hidden
Past: An Exploration of Eastside History (Expanded 2002 Edition) and
the 2002-2003 The Seattle Times Guide to Schools

2002-2003 School Guides
The Seattle Times has released its newest edition of the most comprehensive
guide to schools ever published in the Puget Sound area. The 2002-03
edition of The Seattle Times Guide to Elementary Schools provides information
on 474 public and private elementary schools in the greater Seattle
area.

2002 C.B.Blethen Memorial
Awards Presented.
The 2002 C.B.Blethen Memorial Awards for Distinguished Newspaper Reporting
were presented on November 14 to writers from 12 regional daily newspapers.
The awards were established in honor of C.B. Blethen, publisher of The
Seattle Times for 26 years, from 1915 to 1941.

receives first place for "General Excellence" in national
contest.
For the seventh year, The Seattle Times has won the first place General
Excellence Award in the prestigious Missouri Lifestyle Journalism Awards.
Of more than 1400 entries in the 2002 contest, The Seattle Times was
selected for the top honor in its circulation division.

New Senior News Producer.
The Seattle Times is pleased to announce that Lucy Mohl joined the company
September 30 as Senior News Producer of seattletimes.com. Her responsibilities
will include serving as the director of daily operations for the Web
site and supervising a team of news producers and production assistants.

Adds Weekly Snohomish County Newsmagazine
Every Wednesday beginning September 25, editions of The Seattle Times
delivered to Snohomish County will include "The Times of Snohomish
County," a weekly newsmagazine featuring coverage of Snohomish
County news and events.

New Manager for Real Estate Advertising
The Seattle Times has named Kristi Robertson to the position of Real
Estate Category Manager in the Advertising department. Robertson will
be responsible for managing the sales team dedicated to NWClassisfieds,
and for providing customers with products and programs customized to
meet their advertising needs.

Names New Production Manager.
The Seattle Times has named Peter Birdsall to the position of Production
Manager. Birdsall will be based at the company's North Creek production
facility located just north of Seattle in Bothell, Washington. He will
be responsible for overseeing Platemaking, Newsprint Receiving and Warehouse,
Pressroom, Packaging, Night Operations, Machinists, Electricians, Systems
Engineering, and North Creek Facilities and Safety.

Gardening and Young Readers.
Beginning June 5, 2002, The Seattle Times offers readers a host of new
content and improvements to its regular Wednesday feature lineup. Readers
can now enjoy an entire stand-alone section devoted to food, plus new
wine and gardening coverage.

Wine Coverage: The Seattle Times, Yakima Herald-Republic and Walla Walla
Union-Bulletin
Beginning June 5, 2002, The Seattle Times, Yakima Herald-Republic and
Walla Walla Union-Bulletin will devote even more coverage to wine and
the wine industry. The focus on wine, an area of burgeoning interest
to Northwest readers, will be a collaborative effort between the three
Washington state daily newspapers in The Seattle Times family of newspapers.

Expanded Eastside Edition
Beginning May 15, 2002, The Seattle Times will offer readers in Bellevue,
Redmond, Kirkland, Issaquah and neighboring communities east of Lake
Washington a zoned edition of The Seattle Times with even more coverage
of Eastside issues. In addition to expanded Eastside content, readers
will continue to receive all regular content from The Seattle Times
including national and world news, award-winning investigative reporting,
and entertainment, sports and business coverage.

Begins regional printing of The New York Times
Rotary Offset Press begins regional printing of The New York Times Inaugurating
their new $15 million state-of-the-art web printing press, Rotary Offset
Press of Kent, Wash., recently began printing the National edition of
The New York Times. Rotary Offset Press, a subsidiary of The Seattle
Times Company, has a 10-year agreement to print The New York Times for
distribution in the states of Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Alaska.

& the Arts Section Debuts on March 24
A new Seattle Times Entertainment & the Arts section launches March
24, in the Sunday newspaper with extensive coverage of that night's
Academy Awards. The Seattle Times' expanded entertainment and arts coverage
will kick off with an insider's look at Oscar night, including Moira
Macdonald's predictions, a ballot readers can use to follow the ceremony
and an Oscar-gown hall of fame.

New Vice President for Human Resources and Organizational Development
The Seattle Times has promoted Alayne Fardella to the newly-created position
of Vice President for Human Resources and Organizational Development.
Fardella has been with The Seattle Times since 1995, most recently as
Director, Organizational Strategies and Development.
