2005
NAA Newspaper In Education Program Excellence Award
DIVISION I: General Excellence: First Place, newspapers with more than 250,000 daily circulation. This award recognized overall excellence in NIE programs. The Seattle Times Company NIE program won this award at the NAA-NIE Conference in Charleston, NC in May 2005. Categories judged include: program administration, curriculum, educational and teacher services, marketing, promotions and communications and special projects/community service.
2004
NAACP Gold Medal Sponsor Award
The Seattle branch NAACP awarded The Seattle Times a Gold Medal Sponsor Award, the highest level presented. The awards were given for continuous support of the local branch for the past two years.
2003
Big Brothers Big Sisters of King & Pierce Counties
The Blethen family received the first annual Beverly Freeman Award for
extraordinary leadership, dedication, and devotion to Big Brothers Big
Sisters of King & Pierce Counties.
INMA Awards Competition
The NWsource campaign won First Place in the Multi-Media Promotion category
for newspapers with over 300,000 circulation in the 2003 International
Newspaper Marketing Association (INMA) Awards competition. The Multi-Media
Promotion category included "campaigns using a minimum of three advertising
media (in-newspaper, radio, television, print materials, outdoor, audiotext,
online, and others) to market the newspaper."
NSpirit Cultural Recognition Award
Seattle Times Publisher Frank Blethen and The Seattle Times were
awarded the first NSpirit Cultural Recognition Award for "Bridging the
Gap" between diverse people.
2002
Newspaper Association of America (NAA)
The Seattle Times received three first place awards at the NAA's Advertising
Circulation Marketing Excellence (ACME) awards for the large paper categories.
Recognized were the Times' Newspaper in Education (NIE) "season
ticket" program, subscriber rewards package and Snohomish County
edition promotion. The Seattle Times Company's NWClassified radio campaign
earned a second place award.
Career Fair and Diversity Recruiter's Network
Awarded the "Diversity
Spirit Achievement Award," to Phyllis Mayo, Director of Human Resources
and Diversity for leadership and support of Diversity in the Community
and Workplace. The award was presented at the 2002 Title VII Diversity
Career Fair.
INMA/E&P Awards Competition
The Seattle Times Company won a First Place Award in the 2002 International
Newspaper Marketing Association (INMA) and Editor & Publisher magazine
Awards competition for the "My Hero" reader contest. The Seattle Times
was also chosen as a runner-up in the "Promotion of a Newspaper Online
Service" category for New Media's NWsource ad campaign.

- In 1995, The Seattle Times received the coveted Optimas Award for Managing Change from Human Resource Management magazine for its comprehensive diversity initiatives company-wide and its focus on journalism content audits.
