A GUIDE TO SUBMITTING DIGITAL ADS
Color and B/W PDFs
Tips for building in color
- Use only the colors that are needed in your final page-layout preparation. For spot color, use just one. For an NAA or 4-color process ad, all colors used should be set to CMYK process.
- Spot color ads using Photoshop, Illustrator, and Freehand must be converted to the same matching spot color before the image is placed onto the page layout.
- Color ads must be built in CMYK process. When building new colors, choose CMYK as the model and leave "Spot Color" unchecked. Artwork built in other software programs (Illustrator, Freehand or Photoshop) and placed into a desktop publishing program must first be converted into CMYK before importing it into the program.
- Color images should be 300 dpi, for newspaper at 100-line screen. Any greater resolution will not increase the quality of printing.
Tips for building in black and white
- Use only the colors that are needed in the final page-layout preparation. Make sure no other colors are present prior to postscripting your black/white ad.
- All Photoshop, Illustrator, and Freehand files must be converted to black/white prior to placement in your layout.
- Black/white images should be twice the dpi as line screen. For newspapers at 100-line screen, the resolution should be 200 dpi.
- Note: Printing to Postscript is critical in the PDF-conversion process. How
you create the Postscript file will determine if the job will print properly.
Programs such as Microsoft Office software, Acrobat Library, and Multi-Ad Creator,
will not produce a proper postscript file. If you use Acrobat Library with
Adobe Indesign, remember that this software will create a PDF, but it won't
embed the fonts.
