Digital Ad Specifications

We are able to accept PDF files (Acrobat 5 (PDF 1.4) or greater that fit the specifications listed below. For information on how to submit you ad digitally visit us at seattletimescompany.com/adsubmission/ or contact your Account Rep. PDF Settings

You can Export/Save As a PDF directly from modern applications such as InDesign and PhotoShop. Below are the settings you will need.

Before submitting your PDF please take a look at it to make sure it is correct.

If you're application cannot Export/Save As a PDF please use the following distiller settings to create your PDF.

Note: Image Tiling - Individual images within a PDF should not "tile" (separate into smaller squares when clicked upon). In an emergency you might ask us to extract images to make adjustments. If images are tiled, we cannot do this. Tiling can be caused by different things - please check your PDF for tiling before submission by clicking on the image. If the image appears to be comprised of many separate squares it is tiled.

Technical Specifications

Black and White ads

  • 100-line screen ruling with a minimum resolution of 200 dpi with standard screen angles.
  • Halftones. Resolution of 200 dpi or higher.
  • Highlight - min 5%, Midtone 35%, Shadow 85%.
  • Dot gain compensation should be set to 30%.
  • Black screen less than 20% or greater than 80% are not recommended.
  • Font size 7 pt or higher. Reverse type must be 10 pt Sans Serif or higher.

Full Color Ads

  • All spot colors provided as CMYK.
  • 100-line screen ruling with a minimum resolution of 300 dpi with standard screen angles.
  • Color Dot Aimpoints:
    Cyan Magenta Yellow Black
    Highlight 5 2 2 0
    Midtone 36 28 28 10
    Shadow 60 50 50 80
  • Dot gain compensation should be set to 30%. It is not recommended to exceed 220% for total ink coverage.
  • Trapping is recommended at .25 pt to .30 pt.
  • Font size 7 pt or higher. Reverse type must be 10 pt Sans Serif or higher.

Pacific Northwest Magazine
The point size limits for readability is 10 pt for reverse and solid.

  • Black-and-White Ads

    • 150 line screen.
    • Image resolution is 300 dpi.
    • Highlight - min 5%, Midtone 35%, Shadow 85%.
  • Color Ads

    • CMYK process color.
    • 150 line screen.
    • Image resolution 300 dpi.
    • Trapping not recommended at .25 pts.
    • Color Dot Aimpoints:

      Highlight 5 2 2 0
      Midtone 36 28 28 10
